2009 Toyota iQ

Toyota gave us our first glimpse of the tiny iQ concept at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show and follows it up in Geneva with the premiere of the production model that will go on sale at year’s end.

At 117.3 inches long, this subcompact is not destined for North America, but the four-seater is designed to carry three Europeans and either a child or some luggage, depending on how the interior is configured. The trick is how far forward you move the front passenger seat.

The microcar is 10.6 inches longer than a Smart Fortwo—which only carries two people. Blog chatter suggests it could get a 1.0-liter engine with stop/start functionality. We’ll be in Geneva and will let you know once the details emerge.
